LOVE AT FIRST ZEN - My first ever car
Hey there! Welcome to my first post.
1. Love at first Zen!
There may be many vintage cars that people talk about. Ask me, being born in 2002 I don't know much. Because all that I'd seen when I was born in the early 2000's were Altos, 800's, Accent's etc
That brings us to my first ever car.
The Suzuki Zen.
The moment I saw it, it was love at first sight! (cant say drive because I'm still 17!) It looked stunning in violet and had lots going for it. A 1998 LX model.
It's 'jelly bean' design looked so extraordinary for a hatchback. My neighbours who owned the car before me, modified the car to look like the VX spec by adding a bull bar, power windows and a set of fog lamps which was very cool that time
If anybody ever knew this, Zen actually stands for Zero-engine-noise
It had a 900cc engine powered by 60 (yes 60!) Horsepower coupled with 78nm of torque
Sounds less in today's world but hey, I'm not done talking yet.
But whenever my dad drove it, it was always a joy. Every time I'd always see a happy grin on his face. The power delivery was always handy when required. Dad also said that on the handling front everything was fine except that the steering was rigid in terms of manoeuvrability . In those days having a power steering was a priority as it was new all the time.even after having such a feature, the steering would never return to the centre. Driving the Zen would still be an absolute dream for me. I wish I still had that car though
There were sometimes problems faced due to leakage in the fuel tank or some times due to the windows, as the rain water would flow through it at times leaving unpleasant odour
The best memory of the car and me was whenever me and my family would go for shopping to the mall.
At times i would sit on my dads lap and drive as i was very young. Fun times.
The shocking thing today is that people still today keep this car while some have even tuned up to make it a hot hatch! It surely is a hot hatch that created a revolution in the Indian automobile segment as it was one of the best selling cars of Maruti Suzuki
Though this lock down is still going on, never stop loving driving and obviously, cars. The moment you drive one will be the moment it has a special place in your heart and for me they do.

ReplyDeleteYes zen was a great car .... and coming to Santro xing it was also a gem when Hyundai given it a 1.1 Litre engine 67 hp 99nm of torque love that torque surge on Santro xing which was a very good update over 1999 Santro zip 1.0 litre engine which was less powerful than Santro xing model
