Hydrogen powered fuel cell cars: The Future ?

Hydrogen fuel cell cars, the successor of electric cars We've always heard about electric vehicles and Teslas being the future of mobility. Well, fuel cell cars are on their way to mass production once the resources are available and costs are lower. And could be the successor to electric cars or be placed as an alternative Hyundai Nexo and Toyota Mirai are the first few cars on sale that possess such powertrains. Wanna know how they work? You've come at the right place  Coming from the Hyundai Nexo, its fuel cell engine generates electricity. mixing oxygen with compressed hydrogen to create a flow of electrons. It’s intelligent, efficient, and only emits pure, clean water. I too was shocked by the fact that from carbon monoxide, we can have a car whose byproduct is water. There is also a battery pack to provide smooth acceleration for better driveability So how do I charge/fill the tank? This can be done from hydrogen fuel stations. As gases flow quickly, the time to fill u...

Does the automotive sector have low scope ?

Is the automotive sector a sector of low scope? I know you'll be surprised when I asked such a question.  Believe me, even I was surprised too when this question came across to me. The reason why I wrote this is because what actually happened was that the college I was   in made a decision to shift me and my batchmates to mechanical field from automotive just because the university came to a decision that the automotive field doesn't have any scope. And so due to that, my mind was full of questions…I'm sure as an automotive enthusiast who reads this thread, you'd have queries regarding this too. Does the automotive industry not make any sense?  Does it not contribute to the economy even after millions of cars being sold? It's also been said that this sector plays a pivotal role in the GDP of a nation. Yes the pandemic has occurred, yes it has vandalized every field beneficial to the economy. But even though the automotive sales sector is on its way to recovery, we...

Questions to ask the Indian Automotive industry

Being on Twitter for the last few months I have learnt so much about automobiles. I had my views on particular cars but by hearing opinions of people who actually own those cars, most of them have been contradictory to my views. You never really experience a car unless you own it  or even test driven it.  Even people who may not be much of a car enthusiast as automotive journalists are, they have much better experience and views (not comparing). Also, some of the major automotive companies in the last few years have taken major decisions in terms of building a product that, to be honest, really shocks me. This leads me to ask some straight forward questions to every car lover, owner, journalist and automobile brands as well. So, Here are the questions I want to ask. Why is there so much focus on sales units being sold rather than making the product itself better in every aspect ?       2.   If a particular brand has faced constructive criticism regardi...

Learning to Drive

Learning how to drive a vehicle is one of the most desired things one decides to go for once he/she turns 18. Either we’d learn from our parents or go to a driving school. I tried the former once, last year, and it was so difficult that I swore off being behind the wheel completely. But since I turned 18 in the last month, I applied for a driving school. Wanna know how it went? I'm sure you'd relate to my experiences. Also as you read on, I hope this solves most of your doubts regarding most driving schools. A grey model 2005 Swift with stickers (for safety, of course) arrived and I get called in by its driver (later my driving teacher). We halted at a society with an open road and I was made to sit in the driver's seat. At first, you are given a brief in the interiors of a basic car; the pedals (A,B,Cs of a car) to the AC controls, the column stocks for the indicator and wiper functions. Then I was taught how to change gears smoothly. You need to remember all this before y...

Transmission Talk

Image
Hyundai recently launched the new Venue SUV with an IMT or intelligent manual transmission but have you really wondered how many kinds of transmissions are out there? , which is the best one among them, which is the most fuel efficient or which makes the best driving experience in a car? We all know that car transmissions come of many types namely manual and automatic but there are variations in each of them. Here's a full list of them! Manual transmissions: The old classic. Gives you one of the best driving experiences thought the changing of gears and clutch work is done manually. Intelligent manual transmission: (IMT) Developed by hyundai and kia motors, this is a hybrid of an automatic and a manual transmission where in change of gears is done manually while the clutch work is done automatically. In the below picture you can see a manual transmission but the clutch is absent. Hyundai says that the technology uses an  'intention sensor' with the gear lever th...

Today's article is all about hatchbacks.. 1.Entry level hatchbacks: For those on a hatchback with a tight budget Range from around 3 lakhs to around 5/5 ½ lakhs Cars available in this segment are:          1.Maruti Suzuki Alto (3.60-4.81 lakh)          2.Datsun Redi-go (3.32 - 4.412 lakh) 3. Maruti suzuki alto K10 (4.26 - 5.08 lakh) In this segment, I prefer the alto k10 as it has a much better engine in terms of power delivery. It's also backed up by the amazing after sales service that maruti offers 2 . Premium budget hatchbacks R...

My bond with my swift

General question. How many of you guys have ever owned a Swift or driven it once at least? I feel most of you must be nodding in the affirmative. I am one of those people who owns a Swift currently.  If you have read my earlier article on the Zen, it's obvious that since it was old, we needed a replacement. And after searching, my dad chose that it was the Swift that he was going to go for. It was a VXi model with a shiny blue colour which really made it stand out. The interior plastic quality was great, the cup holder was of great convenience and the AC kept the interior cool at all times. There were a few dents and scratches here and there though on the exterior. The steering was very light, which helped maneuver anywhere around the city but at the same time it never weighed up at high speeds. The 1197 cc petrol engine with 86 HP coupled with 114 Nm of torque meant that power was handy when required. There was a little bit of body roll around the corners but it was acceptable....
